EU Adopts Digital Markets Act

What's new: Yesterday, the European Parliament and European Member states reached a deal on the Digital Markets Act, which establishes rules for digital "gatekeepers." The new rules include a wide range of restrictions on Big Tech firms, including limits on app stores, requirements for platforms to interoperate, and non-discrimination mandates. The DMA will likely come into force later this year.

The DMA was a focal point of our January presentation on regulatory risk in the tech sector (LINK) and our call with Damien Geradin, the founding partner of Geradin Partners and a professor of law at Tilburg University (LINK). The final version of the DMA is in line with those previous discussions. Replays of both calls are available at the links above. Our January deck on regulatory risk is available here (LINK).
